North and East Skye to North of Ullapool

North and West Skye from Loch Alsh to Rubha Coigeach, just north of Ullapool including Loch Torridon, Loch Sguod and Loch Dundonnell.

The Inner Sound and the Sound of Raasay provide a sheltered area with spectacular scenery and wide variety of anchorages. Both Loch Torridon and Loch Gairloch are easy to get to with no major headlands. North of Loch Gairloch, is the major headland of Rubha Reidh ('the smooth point') which is notorious for heavy seas and care should be taken - particularly with wind and tide against each other.

East of Rubha Reidh is Loch Ewe, Gruinard Bay and Little Loch Broom which all offer several anchorages and limited facilities. Furthest inland to the North of Rubha Reidh is Loch Broom with the largest settlement in this area, Ullapool.

Originally founded in 1788 with funding from the British Fisheries Society, Ullapool is still a picturesque fishing village with a range of facilities and cultural activities and is know for it's Music Festivals. The Ullapool website has more information as well as a calander of local events.

Further up the coast to the North West of Ullapool are a collection of about 30 islands, known as the Summer Isles. There are many anchorages although most are exposed. Further to the North is the headland of Rubha Coigeach ('five achs point', achs being a land portion/holding is Gaelic) with it's spectacular cliffs.
